it is an amazing thing, the earth's rotation. in parts of the country such as new england, there are four seasons caused by said rotation. there is winter, which is characteristically very cold for humans, then there is spring where the weather warms up, plants grow and people still wear sweaters. spring is followed by summer, the phase we are in now. summer is a very warm time of the year where people are forced to strip down. inventions have been made to make indoor living/shopping more bearable, namely airconditioning. but many households, alas still do not have this luxury. so get naked saddle up next to a fan and stock up on freeze pops. luckily for those not basking in the hot sun and loving it, fall quickly ascends on summer and gradually the earth cools down, leaves go on strike, there is a crisp smell in the air, and it is generally pleasant until the cycle repeats with winter to freeze your panteloons. ah, the joys of rotation.

Actually, Blitzkrieg is quite incorrect in her musings on heat. The cause of increased heat intensity during the summer is the tilt of the Earth's axis. During Summer months, the angle of incidence of most of the energy from the Sun is close to 90 degrees. Therefore, during Summer months, the energy is more easily absorbed rather than simply reflecting. Strangely, during the Summer months in the Northern Hemisphere, the Earth is further away from the Sun than it is during the Winter months.
