Well, in the case of Jesus Christ, the most egregious example of deity-misnaming and the most commonly worshipped deity apart from money, sex, and television...most people probably think his friends called him up on his celly and said, "Hey Jesus, wanna grab a bite to eat; maybe turn some water into wine?" In reality, I am not sure what he would have been called. I guess his Hebrew name (phoneticized) was Yehoshua. This is pretty much like the English Joshua. Why isn't it Joshua Christ? Well, I'm not really sure if "Jesus" commonly went by a Hebrew name even. Still, I think somehow the Hebrew name, when altered to a Latin form, became roughly Yehova. Perhaps when that was translated into German, the Y, which does not exist, was replaced with a like-sounding J to spell Jehova (pronounced Yehova). Back in the ye olde days, people were probably too dumb to speak multiple languages anyway, so when they saw Jehova, they probably pronounced it with an English J. So now, we have made up a story about how it became Jehova. From there, I bet some king had a lisp that made him pronounce h and v like s. When he said the "name," it was then more like Jesosa. This was too close to Sammy Sosa, so they changed it to Jesos. When the bible was first being recopied by some minimum-wage earning prankster kids, they intentionally inserted the misspelling of Jesus in place of Jesos. At that time, reprinting was too expensive, and therefore out of the question, so the name was left. As for the Christ portion of the name, that was used to express a great respect for the Dead Kennedys' important work "Frankenchrist." I hope this clarifies any misunderstanding.

the lord is all knowing and all powerfull, and whatever name you use....well....if you are talking about the lord, then he/she will know. Even if you try and fool god by saying,"HOT STINKING POTATOES!!!" when you really mean, "GOD DAMMIT, YOU TOTAL IDIOT!!", the lord will know what you really meant and thus, will smite you. The lord is crafty like that. He knows that you don't know his name, and he also knows when you are using that which you don't know, in vain (or in falsehood). Prepare to be smitten.

I find that being in the right place at the right time, surrounded by the right people, the right religion is forced upon me and it my choice to accept this. Use of the lords name is almost never in vain. I think the lord wore this sign "Here to Help".
